Book Blitz: Liberation by Kate L. Mary

Liberation
Kate L. Mary
(Moonchild, #2)
Publication date: November 1st 2016
Genres: Post-Apocalyptic, Young Adult

From two-time award-winning author, Kate L. Mary, comes the sequel to MOONCHILD, “a much needed breath of fresh air in the world of YA fantasy.” After surviving the auction and a near death experience at the hands of Asher’s father, Scarlett Moon is more than ready for life to settle down, and with each passing day she starts to feel more at home in Columbus. Even with Asher ready for more than Scarlett can give, she manages to fall into a routine that almost feels like a normal life.

But one distress call is all it takes to destroy the serenity the group has managed to build.

As far as anyone knew, Paget had moved on with her life after storming out months ago, but the fear in her voice when she calls the warehouse tells a different story. Even though Scarlett never liked Asher’s ex to begin with, she can’t help feeling a little bit responsible for Paget’s situation.

Searching in the seediest part of the city, the group picks up clues as they try to piece together what might have happened. The more Scarlett learns about what the other woman has been through over the last few months, the more concerned she becomes. Even worse: there’s no sign of Paget anywhere in Columbus.

With all the clues pointing in one direction, the group leaves the city and heads for Hocking Hills. Only it seems the danger may have followed them, leaving nothing but death and destruction in its wake and putting Paget in more danger than ever before. As Scarlett learns more about the woman who used to hold Asher’s heart, she suddenly finds herself unable to deny how she really feels about him. Only, with Paget in trouble, Scarlett can’t help wondering if Asher might still have feelings for his ex.

Title: How to be Someone Else

Author: Rachel Del

Publication Date: October 20, 2016

Genre: New Adult, Romance

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Synopsis

Sometimes it is the one who knows you best who can love you best.

Penny has lived her life letting others take the reins, leaving her to simply follow in line. After completing her senior year of College she’ll join her father’s marketing firm, get married and start a family.

When her parents drop a bomb on her — that they are getting divorced — Penny decides it’s time to start living by her own rules. And when she meets mysterious P.J. Hawthorne, a published writer who seems to know much more about Penny than she lets on, she knows this is her chance to finally get her life moving in the right direction.

But as questions about her new life overwhelm her, so do thoughts of sweet and gorgeous Alex — who just so happens to be her best friend.

What follows is a series of poor decisions, each one more worrisome than the last, forcing Penny further and further away from not only Alex, but from becoming the woman she’s sure she’s meant to be.

How To Be Someone Else

My Thoughts on How to be Someone Else

This book really resonated with me. I haven’t been in any of the situations Penny finds herself in, but I still saw myself in her somehow. Penny is a thinker and an achiever who hasn’t taken control of her life. When her parents announce their divorce she realizes that she hasn’t ever done anything in her life and sets out to change that. She makes poor decisions (what 21 year old hasn’t) but eventually realizes what she really wants in life.

Alex is Penny’s best friend. He is four years older than her and in a career that he finds unfulfilling. He tries to be there for Penny but she pushes him away.

The connection between Alex and Penny is so sweet. Alex really cares for her and tries to help her and save her from herself. From the first page of the book, I found myself rooting for them to get together, even though they both made decisions at times that had me screaming “stop, you idiot!”

I enjoyed this book so much that I read it in one day. The overarching story is a romance but there is a hint of a mystery with the character of P.J. I wondered from the moment Penny met her what her story was and how it would turn out. I was not disappointed! I recommend this book for adults 18+ who are looking for a sweet and easy read that will keep you on the edge of your seat!

Summary of Vigilante Mine

Internal Affairs be damned, Detective Amanda Werner’s ditching protocol to hunt the vigilante whose bullet landed her on the bench. But this is no vendetta. Evidence suggests he’s the zealot offing corrupt public officials–the same zealot who’s promised to set the city ablaze by week’s end–and she’ll risk her career and her life to save her hometown. Too bad she can’t find anything stronger than Kevlar to guard her heart against her primary suspect: a masked man with a telepathic German shepherd, unstable supernatural hearing, and lips that invite a whole different brand of investigation.

All businessman Ryan McLelas, a.k.a. Klepto, wants is redemption. But even if Amanda could forgive his itchy trigger finger, Ryan still has to convince her that his alter ego’s no serial killer. No small task, with syndicate-paid police officers turning up among the dead. He’d better keep his own syndicate ties close to his chest and Amanda even closer, because if Klepto is unmasked while he’s hunting the real killer, their passionate affair could mark Amanda as the next dirty cop on the hit list.

#GuestPost with #Audiobook Narrator Curt Simmons

Welcome! We are honored to have Curt Simmons with us today as a guest blogger. Enjoy!
-Kristin

Hello everyone. I’m Curt Simmons, narrator of Stephen Whitfield’s romantic desert adventure, Omari And The People. Kristin has asked me to give a little lesson on audiobook production/recording and I’m honored to do so.

tour-buttonI have been self-producing audiobooks for about two years now, so I’m relatively new to the industry and still have a lot to learn, but I think I’m doing okay so far. My overall sense is that the majority of self-producers like me get their audiobook production/narration training via ACX, Amazon’s Audiobook Creation Exchange. I’ve also worked in radio and TV and as an actor in Theatre. That helps too.

As you may know, ACX is an online platform where authors and publishers (mostly indie-selfies) and self-producers build a profile. The rights holders post books they want produced in audiobook form and the narrators post samples of their work. Rights holders can search these samples for a narrator that sounds right and the narrators can search for books and audition for them by submitting a fully produced narration of the audition script found in the book posting. This is usually anywhere from three to ten minutes in length. Omari and the People is the fifth audiobook I have completed through ACX. I’ve also done one additional book for a publishing company not affiliated with ACX. Continue reading #GuestPost with #Audiobook Narrator Curt Simmons

Audiobook Title: Omari and the People
Author: Stephen Whitfield
Narrator: Curt Simmons
Publisher: ShirleyCastle Press
Length: 11 hours and 17 minutes
Audio Release Date: June 20, 2016

Synopsis

In a squalid ancient city on the edge of a desert (based in part on the African Sahara’s Empty Quarter) a weary, thrill-seeking thief named Omari sets his home afire to start anew and to cover his many crimes. When the entire city is unintentionally destroyed by the flames, the cornered thief tells the displaced people a lie about a better place which only he can lead them to, across the desert. With the help of an aged, mysterious woman who knows a better place actually does exist, they set out. The desperate people must come together to fight their way through bandits, storms, epidemics, and more. As a result of Omari’s involvement with Saba, a fiercely independent woman who is out to break him in the pay of a merchant whom he has offended, his ability to lead –his very life — is jeopardized.

My Thoughts on Omari and the People

The Story

This story is reminiscent of the classic adventure stories. There is adventure, magic, romance, and intrigue and the story kept me entertained and wanting to know what was going to happen from the beginning. I loved the way the author describes the landscape in which the story unfolds. I felt like I had been transported to a Middle Eastern desert and could picture it so vividly in my mind.

There is magic, but it is subtle. There are sword fights, but they’re few and far between. This book is much more about the characters and their development and relationships than about the excitement of magic and battle. The characters will draw you in at times, irritate you at others, and from time to time there will a character or two that have you wondering whether those characters are good or evil.
